We completed our first match against Southchurch on a re-schedule date of 23rd May where despite the poor condition of the grass courts, which required a different style of play, we managed to achieve a victory of 14 games against 4 lost games. This enable us to enter the league table in top position above Maldon Pavilion. We thank, Club member Albie Willetts who had a session with our team before the match to discuss in detail game tactics and strategy along with showing us a trick shot to solve a semi jaws wired ball and to gain the hoop but without creating a crunch foul stroke.
Those of you that buy the Essex County Standard may have noticed a report of the Southchurch match in the sports section.
Colchester Team for our next match consists of a mainly unchanged side with Alex & Marilyn Wood, Kev Croot but with the addition of Hugh Brown, I shall attend as non-playing Captain along with Patricia Drinkwater as reserve player.
We play against Chelmsford Blue Team, at home, this coming Friday. Chelmsford Blue is a new team and thus is an unknown force to be dealt with although I now understand that Judith Hand, their Captain, is not playing but will lead her Team as a reserve player.
Round 2 to be played against Chelmsford Blue, 9th June, home.
