2023 AC World Championship – Winner: Robert Fulford (ENG)

Robert Fulford wins AC World Championship for the sixth time.
Former long term member of the Colchester Croquet Club has won the World Croquet Federation Championship [Association Croquet] for a record sixth time at the exclusive Hurlingham Club located in Fulham. In an intriguing and close match against the American Matthew Essick, Robert pulled back from two games to one down to finish three games up to two games and in so doing took the coveted silver cup once again. Essick is the current World Croquet Federation Golf Croquet singles champion.

Robert has now moved to Kent having started his career in 1985 at the age of fifteen here at Colchester. He now plays from the Tunbridge Wells Croquet Club retaining a handicap score of minus 2.5 in the Association game and minus 5 in the Golf Croquet version of the game.

Croquet Association President Quiller Barrett has highlighted Fulford’s uniqueness at being the first player of the sport to “conquer the game”. Barrett said “He appears to be able to complete all manoeuvres he decides to try and has always been willing to share his tactical ideas culminating in development of an open discussion culture throughout the top level of British Croquet”.

Fulford has previously won the National Presidents Cup eleven times, the British Open Championship eleven times, the British Doubles Championship a dozen  times and captained the UK team on numerous occasions.
