Four members of Colchester Croquet Club competed at the English National GC Doubles Championship in Nottingham on 29th & 30th July 2023.
Chris Sheen played with his brother, Roderick from Hurlingham.
Ian Burridge played with Rachel Gee from Nottingham (the current European GC Champion)
Jack Wicks and Albie Willet paired up.
The qualifying stages were held on the Saturday,14 pairs competed with 8 going though to the best-of-3 knock out stage on Sunday. All Colchester members successfully qualified for the knock out stage.
On Sunday morning, in the quarter finals, Jack & Albie beat Chris & Roderick 2-1 whilst Ian and Rachel lost out,0-2, to a pair from Watford. Sadly Sunday afternoon wasn’t so good for Jack and Albie as they lost 0-2 in the semi-final to the eventual winners.
Nottingham Croquet Club has 9 well maintained courts within the university campus, the courts are surrounded by a range of mature trees which make for a very picturesque setting.
