GC Eastern Region Handicap League 10th September 2023

Having secured the Eastern Area League title we squeezed a narrow victory over Sudbury Unity Team 10-8 in the next round and have made it to the East Anglian Federation GC Handicap Final.

It was another hot day playing in temperatures of thirty plus but with cool determination our team fought to the end with Alex being put under pressure to win the last game to give us the final result. Hugh was our top scorer winning the doubles with Kev and then winning his four singles games and at the same time reducing his handicap to three.

We now progress to the final on Sunday 1st October against Meldreth [Central Area] league winners in the final, a small effective Club retaining some strong players. Stephen Scrase is interested whether any of Colchester members have come up against them in the past, just spill the beans with me to help paint a picture of our opponents.

The venue for the final is Wrest Park  [north of Luton] a rather super location set in the grounds of a National Trust property.

Any members that want a day out to support us are welcome to attend on 1st October, at Wrest Park Croquet Club [Wrest Park], Silsoe MK 45 4HR, between Luton & Bedford. See web site for further details.

Wrest Park is a National Trust property & can be visited separately to the club, lunch and teas can be obtained from the Trust property, why not treat yourself out for the day!
