Colchester Croquet Club Eastern League Champions have become worthy runners-up in the East Anglian Croquet Federation final held within the tranquil grounds of Wrest Park in Bedfordshire last Sunday. Meldreth Croquet Club from Cambridgeshire won the tough match against Colchester over a seven hour period scoring neck and neck before a weary and fatigued Colchester side went down by 7-11 but only by a narrow margin of hoops scored.
Colchester’s Team consisted of Hugh Brown, Alex Wood, Ed Hogbin and Marilyn Wood. Alex was top scorer for Colchester winning four out of his five games, Marilyn and Ed came in with two games each with, out of form Hugh Brown unable to repeat his high semi-final performance.
Stephen Scrase the non- playing captain praised his team for the great effort during Colchester’s league run by hanging on to the top spot throughout 2023 and achieving a finals placement for the first time in recent Club history.
