On 5th July, the Colchester team of Marilyn Wood (Captain), Alex Wood, Pat De Burca and Chris Clarke played their third league match, this time away against Chelmsford Red. Once again, the weather forecast of ‘showers clearing by 10.00’ failed to materialise and it was wet-weather gear on and off for most of the day.
Those of you who know the Writtle lawns will recall the tricky slopes players have to contend with. Nevertheless, the match was closely contested, with many 7-6 games and points shared back and forth throughout the day. However, late in the afternoon Colchester pressure finally prevailed for a 10-8 win and a remarkably close hoop score of 103-102. Our team now sits top of the league on game difference, with two matches to play, next one away to Maldon Pavilion.
Mention should be made of our newest team member Chris Clarke with a 12 handicap, who starting playing under a year ago and won 3 of her 5 games. Well done Chris, great performance!
