Last Thursday saw the revival of the club’s Locke Bowl competition, first run in 1976 but absent for the last few years. Previous winners have included Jill Waters, Robert Jacklin and Jane Collier.
This trophy was first contested nearly 50 years ago, with the format now re-imagined by Kevin & Alex to test three disciplines of croquet. Eight competitors played six matches, two each of GC Singles, One-Ball, and GC Doubles. Thanks to an ingenious spreadsheet, what could have been a confusing or even chaotic organization ran like clockwork. One comment summed it up perfectly: “It was a bit like a bumble-bee – it shouldn’t have been able to fly but it did.”
Runners-up were Hugh and Robert with four wins, but rather embarrassingly, the winner with five wins out of six was Kevin!
Thanks and well done to everyone who played and for making it a fun day.
Kev & Marion on the 11th.
