EACF Handicap League v West Mersea – 15th August

Our final match of the League phase was against West Mersea at home.  We started the game early to allow our opponents to get back home before the high tide covered The Strood, and it turned out to be a good decision when the day turned out to be another scorcher!

Simon Bird, Kev Croot, Chris Clarke and Marilyn Wood faced a team consisting of one 7 handicapper, a 10, an 11 and a 12.  This meant some tough starting scores for Kev and Simon – the worst being a minus 3 against a plus 1.

Colchester won the two morning doubles games and pulled further ahead with a score of 8-2 by lunchtime.  We maintained our advantage in the afternoon singles, to win the match 15-3.

We are now top of the league with 8 points and a game difference of +34 hoops.  Maldon Lakeside and Chelmsford, both on 6 points, have one game left to play.

Well done to the team, who performed well on our rather uneven lawns against tricky opposition.  Special congratulations to Chris for winning all her games, and to Kev for reducing his handicap to 3.

No homemade cakes this time, but Lord Sainsbury provided very acceptable Carrot Cake and Rocky Road.
