Our final match of the League phase was at home against Maldon Lakeside.
Kev Croot, Marilyn Wood, Dave Pearse and Chris Clarke faced a team containing a 5 handicapper (who recently won our CE B-Level competition so was definitely in good form!), an 8, an 11 and a 12. This meant some tough starting scores for Kev and Marilyn – the most challenging being a minus 3 against a plus 1.
The two morning doubles games were halved, with one game being so closely contested that it was timed out after an hour and a quarter with the score standing at 4-3 to Maldon! Colchester pulled ahead by winning the first two rounds of singles 3-1 to give a score of 7-3 at lunch. We maintained our advantage in the afternoon singles, to win the match 13-5 with a hoop difference of +45.
We are now top of the league with an unassailable 9 points , a game difference of +22 and a hoop difference of +103 hoops. There are still a couple of games left to play for the other teams, but this result means that we win the Eastern Region league for an amazing 4th year in a row!
Well done to the team, who performed well against tricky opposition on our lightning fast lawns.
We now progress to the semifinal at Newport on 13th September.
