Centenary GC Competition – 25th August

Report by Ian Cumming, photos by Chris Clarke

Teams from Maldon, Prittlewell (Southend), Frinton and Colchester turned out for the last centenary celebration tournament. By chance Alex, Martin & Al were cutting the lawns when teams arrived, so that provided our visitors with challenging fast conditions. Due to a mismatch in the average handicaps Ian switched from level play to Doubles Extra Turns – a novelty for most of the players. Some  high handicappers were able to exploit this to their advantage. In the event Colchester proved the most consistent, winning 6 out of 7 games in the blocks. Maldon just pipped Frinton for second place and managed to deny Colchester’s top team in a play-off. (“At Manager’s Discretion” ruled out a home teams’ final) and so the commemorative trophy was presented to Maldon. Players enjoyed a fine afternoon tea on another sunny day. Thanks to Patricia, Chris and helpers.

Well done to Rita Rustage, Chris Clarke, Dave Pearse and Paul Trumper and thanks for sportingly allowing the visitors a moment of glory!
